Montessori approach

12 months to 6 years of age

Infant Community (12 months to 3 years of age)

Our Infant Community program offers children an individualised and engaging experience. We have five classrooms that provide stimulating, hands-on, and practical activities, which promote primary motor coordination, independence, and language development.

Children in this age group learn through direct contact with their environment—using all their senses and through movement. They quite literally absorb what is around them. By engaging their senses, infants explore and use their experiences to build an understanding of the world. For this reason, we have created outdoor green spaces and natural learning environments to support each child’s developing senses.

Cycle 1: 2½ to 6 years of age

Children aged 3 to 6 are engaged in a process of self-construction. Our Cycle 1 program offers an engaging learning journey of discovery, fostering concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and a love of learning. The application of Montessori philosophy, along with specifically designed Montessori materials, supports each child’s ability to absorb knowledge and continue along this path of self-construction.

We have two Cycle 1 classrooms where children participate in individual and small group activities. Materials are introduced one-on-one by the Directress, based on careful observation of each child’s individual needs and readiness for further learning experiences.

We have created purposeful indoor and outdoor environments that support children’s natural desire to explore, develop critical thinking skills, and build independence in their learning.

The Montessori method of education aims to support the fullest possible development of the whole child, ultimately preparing them for life’s many rich experiences. Drawing on her background in medicine, psychology, and anthropology, Dr Maria Montessori (1870–1952) developed her educational philosophy through careful observation of children.

We invite you to further explore the Montessori approach to education and the work of Dr Maria Montessori.

Overview of Montessori Education
